Each set is painted in authentic camouflage patterns, and each one is disassembled, masked, and airbrushed before being reassembled for the final touches. You'll find such features as carefully weathered and painted side frames, weathered wheels and painted deck boards which includ wooded chalks and more. For this REI set we used a Artitec midget sub and Artitec flat cars. Submarine set is a highly detailed model, it has complete undercarriage detail, deck details and comes equipped with NEM 362 coupler pockets. This is a unique model that will make a great addition to any collection.
** Please Note: The Artitec Military Transportation Chain Set 387.300 would add some additonal detail.
Submarine Info: The Seehund (seal), or Type XXVIIB5 U-boat, was a German two-man midget submarine, inspired by the British X-Craft midget submarines that made an attack on the battleship Tirpitz in September 1943. Powered by a 60 hp diesel and a 25 hp electric motor, the Seehund could make 7 knots on the surface and 3 knots underwater. It was armed with two torpedoes mounted externally on each side of the hull. Seehunden went into service in December 1944 and sank 93,000 tons of shipping before the end of the war. While their small size and low speed made them very difficult for Allied vessels to detect, they came too late in the war to make an impact. The Seehund’s small size however makes it a unique addition to wartime and post-war model railway layouts.
PLEASE NOTE: These models are all handmade and painted which makes every one unique. This means the paint patterns may vary a little and the detail parts like sandbags, turret tracks, antennas, etc. may also be arranged differently. This was also the case in real life. These models are very prototypical.
